For those of you who don’t know, NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month.
Rather than getting into detail about it, I’ll sum it up and give you a link. The summary is: people try to write 50,000 words (really a novelette) in the month of November. There’s really no prize but bragging rights, a couple icons you get access to, and the realization that if you really, really want to, you can make time to write.
I’ve done this four times, and “won” each time. It’s some of the most fun I have while writing, and I’ve been itching for this next one to start.
The last three that I did turned into the book I self-published earlier: “The Mr. E Revelations: Dark Discoveries.” (By the way, don’t forget that you can win a copy of that book: https://strangedavid.wordpress.com/2012/10/22/win-a-copy-of-the-mr-e-revelations-dark-discoveries/)
The next one will be in the same series. I’ve been thinking about this one for a while, and I think I have a ton of the plot ready to roll, although the details are all fuzzy (which is kind of the way I like it heading into a writing blitz like this). I definitely don’t have a title for this one (oddly enough, I think I do have the titles for sections 5 and 6).
The big difference for me this time around is time. For one thing, I’ve needed to work a fair amount of overtime lately, and I don’t think that will magically end in November. For another thing, in the past few years I’ve taken a hiatus from ComedySportz — but this year I’m not pulling back as much, because I’ve missed more matches than I want to lately (due to that overtime). And finally — the biggest difference — I’m a daddy now.
I don’t know if you know this, but that takes time. (I love every minute of it.)
I’m curious — I may “lose” NaNo this year.
